Introduction to concepts from Saṅgītaratnākara

Adapted from Chapter 5 of 'Saṅgītaratnākara - A Study' by R.Rangaramanuja Ayyangar, 2nd Ed.

The Sanskrit text of Saṅgītaratnākara outlines the concepts of prastāra, saṅkhyā, naṣṭam and uddiṣṭam methods, pātāla and mēru charts in a very terse and compact manner. The commentaries in various references, too, are not easy to comprehend. These concepts are presented here in a simplified form and may be regarded as creative interpretations of the text. Some tables in the original text have been recast after computational verification and for representational clarity.
